Get Out of MY Way!

Yesterday after a couple hours of swimming, the kids and I returned home for some good ol' peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, string cheese, and REST!  You remember the feeling, there is no better rest then with a full belly after swimming!  As the three youngest boys were snug in their beds and fast asleep, I read to the other three kids, then left them to do their own resting while I did some things on the computer downstairs.  A little while after being downstairs, I heard one of the boys crying.  A few moments later, my oldest came running downstairs proclaiming that one of the boys had an accident and it got on her.  So, up the stairs I went to assess the situation...the bed was dry, but the under-roos were wet...hmmm.  So, like any good detective-mom would do, I traced the path.  Ah, there is was, right beside the door.

He must have realized his need for the bathroom, gotten up, only to fight with the door.  That was when I heard the cries.  However, it wasn't until the middle of the night when that same child got up at 2AM to go potty did the Lord speak to my heart about what had happened...

'You do that all the time, honey' I could hear the Lord speak so sweetly.  I must admit, I got a little bit defensive, 'Do What?!'  Almost feeling like I were being put down. "Get in your own way..."  "How?"  I prodded a bit further, and He allowed me to see:

All the times He is doing something in my life and I jump in to help...all the times He tells me to be still and wait on Him...and I jump in because things aren't moving as quickly as I would like them to...and even the times when He says go and I  say, oh, but Lord, I am just not ready yet.  It's all about me most of the time, but I need to get out of the way and simply say, YES LORD!

God amazes me, because just today on Jill Savages blog  (Hearts at Home - http://www.hearts-at-home.org/) she asked if you could go back and say something to your teenage self, what would it be...I had already started this blog today, but the timing is not coincidence, it is God-incidence!

Are you getting in your way?  Many times we need to get out of the way so God can use us, move in us, and even grow us.  When we are in the way of the door opening the more we fight with it, not only is it not going to move easily, we could get hurt in the process.  A scraped up toe, a bruised shoulder, a goose-egg on the noggin or a bloody nose...those happen because WE are in the way of the door opening.  So, do yourself a favor and tell yourself...GET OUT OF MY WAY!  :-)

  1. I do this all the time, too. It's so easy to think of it as helping ourselves when really it's hindering!
